We Can't! We Won't! And We Don't Stop!

Settling in at the location where we’ll be offering programs, supports and housing during construction of The Sunflower.

March 17, 2021

Wow. This is our last day here, with our old friend, Adsum Centre – or ‘The Centre’, as we more affectionately call it.

No one could help but wax nostalgic on this day. So many significant moments! We planted trees here, every year on Earth Day, and observed them over time, growing with the Centre. Even this early in spring, we can spot new growth in the gardens that have been here for years.

So many milestones were achieved at the Centre, for the people that lived here and worked here. Children born, parents lost, changing governments, social media explosions, a few hurricanes, and a pandemic. We weathered them all, and keep going.

During this past week, the work did not stop just because we were moving. We were busy packing and lifting, but that work was the easy stuff.

The work and care that transpired at the Centre for almost two decades carry on at our interim sites and in our outreach work. We are excited for The Sunflower, for sure, but nothing stops, not for a minute. We're not just waiting to break new ground. We keep going.

All of the people that lived at the Centre have been housed in permanent homes, or have come with us to the location where we will provide day and evening support, and programming to three to nine women at our interim site and neighbouring rapid housing site. We will continue to offer parenting support, life skills, and therapeutic programming. Our individual support and intensive housing work have been amplified. We are doing outreach and continue to support dozens of past Centre residents daily, by phone, text, email, and in person. And we are thrilled to be introducing a trusteeship program, coming soon. We're not going anywhere!

We're here. We're keeping on. You can call us at the number you're used to, (902) 876-5011. We are growing and changing, but the good stuff is never going away.

Hope, dignity, and choice, it's all still here.

Warmly,

Cheryl
