Adsum Announces 2012 Successful Canadian Women Honorees

Adsum for Women & Children will honour three extraordinary Canadian women during its 23rd Annual Successful Canadian Women’s Dinner. The event, which will take place at Pier 21 on Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012, celebrates the efforts and achievements of remarkable Canadian women. This year, we will recognize the work of three women who are making a difference in the lives of women, children and youth on an international scale.

Craig Sampson

More than a decade ago, Craig Sampson visited Adsum House as part of a volunteer group from NSCC. The work of Adsum left such an impression on Craig that he organized a group of volunteers to come to Adsum House the next Christmas to help with our gift wrapping day and prepare a feast of turkey and all of the fixings for our residents, staff and volunteers.

The fifth annual Blooming Tea presented by The Prince George Hotel on March 22 has raised more than $6,000 for Adsum. The nearly 200 people who attended were treated to tea, delicious sweets and sandwiches, great music and a fashion show. Thanks to the unusually warm weather guests were even able to enjoy time on the hotel's beautiful roof-top patio.

This year's fashion show highlighted spring accessory trends and featured pieces from Biscuit, Black Market, Grimsmo, Pink Mascara, Pretty Things Boutique, Sock It To Ya and Splurge.

Mystery Art Raises More Than $12,000

Last week's Mystery Art Show & Sale at FRED. was a huge success. A great group of people came out, viewed the artwork and lined up for their chance to purchase their favourite pieces. By the end of the evening more than $12,000 was raised for Adsum - funds that will be used to directly support the hundreds of women and children who use our services each year. Thank you to everyone who attended this year's event and to the many artists who donated such wonderful pieces to the show.

The Mystery Art Show Has Begun!

Over the weekend, staff at FRED. hung all of the amazing art that has been donated to Adsum over the past few months for our Mystery Art Show & Sale. More than 60 pieces are featured including oils, watercolours, acrylics, mixed media and more! Come out this week to FRED.  to see the works in person or check out some of the photos online here or on our Facebook page.

Canadian Tire Surprises Adsum with $50,000 Donation

During the Successful Canadian Women's Dinner earlier this month, Adsum for Women & Children was surprised and thrilled to receive a cheque for $50,000 from Steve Mann on behalf of the eight Halifax Canadian Tire Dealers and Canadian Tire Jumpstart.  The Halifax Dealers have been tremendous supporters of Adsum and its work for more than a decade and have, over the years, donated more than half a million dollars to the organization.
