Community Leaders to Receive Honorary Degrees from Saint Mary’s University

 An activist for human rights and an expert on transportation policy and the law of the sea will receive honorary doctorates from Saint Mary’s University during convocation ceremonies on Saturday, January 18, 2014 in the Saint Mary's University Theatre Auditorium in the historic McNally building.

Sheri Lecker will receive a Doctor of Civil Laws, Honoris Causa on Saturday morning at a 10 a.m. ceremony for undergraduate programs in the faculties of Arts and Science and graduate degrees in the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research in the disciplines of Arts and Science.

On Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., Brian Flemming will be honoured with a Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa in a ceremony for undergraduate programs in the Sobey School of Business, and graduate degrees in the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research in the discipline of Commerce.

“We are proud to honour two such inspiring leaders,” said Saint Mary’s University President J. Colin Dodds when releasing the names of honorary degree recipients for Winter Convocation.  “Their sustained contributions to society will inspire our next generation of leaders.”

More than 300 students are expected to cross the stage to receive degrees, diplomas and certificates.
